Every care service carries health and safety duties for residents, staff and visitors. In a busy week, those duties compete with everything else. Risk assessments slip out of date, actions from the last check drift, and nobody quite owns the follow-up.

Oakman Care gives you a named adviser who visits on an agreed schedule, looks at your building and the way work is done with fresh eyes, and leaves you a short, prioritised action plan your team can act on. At the next visit, we start with whatever is still open, so nothing quietly disappears.

Who advises you

Our health and safety support is led by a Certified Member of IOSH (CertIOSH) with an MSc in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Management and more than ten years of practice across construction, rail, highways and aviation. Everyone who advises you on our behalf is an experienced, DBS-checked health and safety professional working to the same visit method and report format, and you keep the same named adviser at every visit.

What a visit covers

We work from HSE’s guidance for care homes (HSG220) and focus on the risks that most often cause harm in care settings.

Walk-round inspection. Premises, grounds and working areas: slips and trips, falls from height and window restrictors, hot water and hot surfaces, bed rails, storage of hazardous substances, sharps, and safe access.
Records and statutory checks. We confirm that key checks are in place and in date, such as fire risk assessment actions and drills, legionella control and water temperatures, hoist and lift examinations, and gas and electrical safety.
Risk assessment review. We review your workplace risk assessments, including staff manual handling, lone working, hazardous substances (COSHH), violence and aggression, and new and expectant mothers, and help you keep them current.
Incidents and near misses. We help you investigate properly, find the real causes, agree actions that stick, and decide whether an incident must be reported under RIDDOR.
Contractors on site. When builders or maintenance contractors work in your home, we review their risk assessments, method statements and the controls that keep residents and staff safe. This is where our construction background helps most.
Staff briefings. Short, practical briefings for your team on the topics that matter in your setting, delivered on the day of the visit.

Who we support

Residential and nursing care homes, home care agencies, supported living and day services, and other health and social care providers across London and the South East.

Helping you evidence safety

Each visit report is dated, specific and shows actions being closed out over time. That gives you clear evidence for the questions CQC asks about whether your service is safe and well-led, and for your own governance meetings. We support your evidence. We do not promise inspection outcomes.

What we do not do, on purpose

We do not take over your duties. As the provider, you stay responsible for health and safety in your service. We advise, check and support.
We do not provide care or clinical advice. Our support covers workplace health and safety, not clinical practice or care planning.
We do not carry out accredited specialist assessments. Fire risk assessments, legionella risk assessments, asbestos surveys and lifting equipment examinations need specialists. We check they are in place and acted on, and can point you to accredited providers.
We do not share what we see. Everything we see and hear in your service is used only to advise you, and stays confidential. The one exception is a concern that someone is at risk of harm, which we would always raise with you and, where required, with the local authority safeguarding team.
